The new face of Lara Croft! (Is Camilla Luddington)

Happy Tuesdings! I haven’t posted in ages because I’m working on my shorts compilation (honest) but here’s a tidbit of gaming news.

Looks like a new era for Lara- which can hardly be a bad thing, because she was daft and cheesy before. Now she’s starring in what appears to be the game that Lost: Via Domus should have been.

Camilla Luddington is Lara Croft and therefore Tomb Raider

London (26 JUNE, 2012) Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, today announced that the English-born actress Camilla Luddington has been chosen to be the voice and performance actress of famous video game adventurer, Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider® game.

After an international talent search using scouts in Europe and the US, Luddington stood out as delivering both a depth of emotion and the youthful tone needed for Lara Croft in the upcoming reimagining of the Tomb Raider franchise, due for release on March 5, 2013.

“This has been one of the most important jobs for us to get right,” said Darrell Gallagher, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics “‘This Tomb Raider game is very different to any other and we are demanding far more from the voice and performance acting than ever before as we take the franchise in a new direction.”

This July Luddington will also participate in the Nerd HQ and Comic-Con panels in San Diego, where she will join the development team as they talk about Tomb Raider and the story behind its creation.

Recently Luddington has starred in hit Showtime series, Californication© and can also be seen in the current season of HBO’s True Blood©.

Tomb Raider is slated for release on March 5th 2013.

Bethesda announces DOOM 3 BFG edition for Autumn!

The flashlight catches a glimmer in the corner of the space-toilets. You freeze, terror taking root, knowing that every shadow could contain a monster from the very depths of hell.

Just to behold such pure hatred incarnate is enough to drive a man insane; but you are no ordinary man. You are a space marine. A… sparine.

You approach slowly, torchlight doing little to help, only serving to cast longer shadows.

A dripping sound indicates poor space-plumbing. There is also the faint wiff of curry.

The glimmer appears again. You approach, only to find a shard of bathroom mirror. Sighing with space-relief, you turn around.

It was just bait. The monster is behind you, blocking the exit. It’s maw opens, spilling red light.

“I give you nice smell bro?” it asks, gesturing with a small bottle of cheap cologne. In it’s other clawed hand is a bowl containing 50ps and 20ps.

There is no escape.

Yeah, anyway, DOOM 3 HD expansion set thingy, multi platform, good news for people who like shooting demons in space.

“May 30, 2012 (London, UK) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax® Media company, today announced that DOOM® 3 BFG Edition will be available this Autumn and features DOOM® 3 and the Resurrection of Evil® add-on pack, both of which have been completely re-mastered. The package also includes hours of new content – seven new levels entitled ‘The Lost Mission’.  DOOM 3 BFG Edition is slated for release for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PC and PlayStation® 3 – making it the first time any DOOM game has ever appeared on the PlayStation 3.

Re-mastered for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, this genre defining game and its add-on pack offers greatly enhanced graphics, deeply immersing the player in the demonic world of this terrifying horror masterpiece. Players will also experience a never-before-seen single-player story, ‘The Lost Mission’ featuring seven heart-pounding levels that will once again have them on the edge of their seats.

DOOM 3, Resurrection of Evil, and ‘The Lost Mission’ have been optimized in 3D, featuring 5.1 surround sound, Xbox 360 Achievements, PlayStation 3 trophies, improved rendering and lighting, and a new check point save system allowing for smoother progression through the game. id® Software has fine-tuned the controls to bring the intensity of the DOOM single and multiplayer experience to the consoles, and DOOM 3 now features the new armour-mounted flashlight, allowing players to illuminate dark corners and blast enemies at the same time.

DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,” said John Carmack, Technical Director at id Software. “Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls.  New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”

As a special bonus, DOOM 3 BFG Edition will also include the original DOOM® and DOOM® 2 games, making it the definitive collection of the revolutionary games developed by id Software,  the studio that pioneered the first-person shooter genre.”

Batman: Arkham City – Harley Quinn’s Revenge DLC trailer and screenies!

Bat-tastic new screens from the eagerly awaited Harley Quinn’s Revenge have bat-landed in my bat-box. Erm, inbox.

Well, I expect I’m not the only one who was looking forward to some story based DLC for Arkham City; getting to ‘be’ Robin, or Nightwing, or Catwoman or whatever wasn’t all that much fun in little arenas that penalised you for doing things your own way.

Finally we have something with some story and meat to it. You still get to ‘be’ the Boy Wonder, if you like that sort of thing and you’re a big jessie. Harley Quinn is a bit miffed about the ending of B:AC (like some fans) and she wants to give B a K in the T. Behold releasygubbins:

“Payback’s a bitch, especially when dealing with The Joker’s most psychotic sidekick, Harley Quinn.  Harley is the new boss of Arkham City and is determined to make Batman pay for what he’s done to The Joker.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment bring to you today a new trailer and screenshots from Harley Quinn’s Revenge Pack, the final chapter of Batman: Arkham City saga that adds more than two hours of fresh single-player gameplay to the critically-acclaimed title from Rocksteady Studios.  The Harley Quinn’s Revenge mission sends players back into Arkham City to face their final challenge as they interchange between playing as both Batman and Robin. Fans who already own the original edition of Batman: Arkham City will be able to download Harley Quinn’s Revenge Pack beginning May 30th on PlayStation®Network £7.99 and the Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for Xbox 360 (800 Microsoft Points).  Newcomers to last year’s Dark Knight adventure will be able to pick up Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Edition on September 7th in the UK, which includes all previous downloadable content (Catwoman Pack, Nightwing Bundle Pack, Robin Bundle Pack, Challenge Map Pack and Arkham City Skins Pack) plus Harley Quinn’s Revenge Pack.”

So, yeah, just in time for the obligatory GOTY edition. People who enjoy beating up women who are dressed as clown strippers, unite! Click for biggerness:

Er, spoiler alert.

We're Death Crochet and we're here to rock Hartlepoooool!

"Get over here!" Answers on a postcard...

Robin's redeeming quality: he hits people with a metal bar.
