Mortal Kombat Skreenshots!

I was so happy when the remake of Mortal Kombat emerged. I was a huge fan back in the mega drive days- Raiden for life y’all- and yet the sequels got increasingly more suspect. This reboot however looks mighty fine- not a cheap abuse of the brand, but a very pretty (hence the screenshot post- 360 version) game with an old school vibe to it. Click images for the big versions. Your eyes on these (feast):

Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution features cybernoir score by Michael McCann

The Deus Ex franchise has a strong standard of music score. DX1 is frankly iconic- are you imagining the big fanfare from the menu screen right now, too? DX2 had the musical stylings of Kidneytheives, whose albums I totally reccomend. Dx3 will have the support of Michael McCann, a master of atmospheric scores.

Regurgitatum:

Award-winning composer and sound designer Michael McCann aka Behavior (ReGenesis, Splinter Cell: Double Agent), best known for his ambient cinematic scores and organic soundscapes, is creating the original musical score for DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION™ currently in development at Eidos-Montréal. The music captures the unique visual style of DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION and thematically supports the blend of action, role-playing and adventure genres featured in the game. To immerse players in the dark and beautifully visualized world of DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION, the score fuses elements of cybernoir, futuristic renaissance and electrosymphonic ambience.

“We are thrilled to have Michael McCann creating the original music score for DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION,” said Steve Szczepkowski, audio director for DEUS EX at Eidos-Montréal. “His cinematic musical expression and immersive scoring sensibility brings emotional depth to the unique experience of DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION. I’m a big fan of Mike’s music and working with him has been a complete pleasure.”

A critically acclaimed music composer and sound designer for film, television and interactive media, Michael McCann’s credits include the title music for the sci-tech drama series ReGenesis, sound design and music editing for the cult film It’s All Gone Pete Tong and the original score for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent which garnered him a Best Original Score Award from IGN.com and nomination from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition.

In DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION you play Adam Jensen, a security specialist, handpicked to oversee the defense of one of America’s most experimental biotechnology firms. But when a black ops team breaks in and kills the scientists you were hired to protect, everything you thought you knew about your job changes. At a time when scientific advancements are routinely turning athletes, soldiers and spies into super-enhanced beings, someone is working very hard to ensure mankind’s evolution follows a particular path. You need to discover why – because the decisions you take and the choices you make will be the only things that can determine mankind’s future. For more information visit www.deusex.com.

The Return of Choplifter!

Anyone remember the Choplifter games? It was a  time when games looked like colourful sick. Those days are long gone because now Choplifter returns, in HD! The trailer hints at a pretty looking side scrolling affair that put me in mind of the old Desert Strike games. Regurgitatum:

InXile Entertainment today announced that the classic, 1980’s Choplifter franchise will be making its 21st century debut this fall.  Currently in development for PlayStation® Network and PC, Choplifter HD promises to redefine the helicopter rescue mission for the modern era.

“First playing and loving the original Choplifter on my Apple II, then watching the franchise expand into arcades and the early console systems helped seed my passion for building lasting, quality gameplay experiences,” said inXile President and CEO Brian Fargo.  “The feedback on creating a fresh take on Choplifter has been incredibly positive. We all have so many fond memories of playing the first game and the fun of rescuing people in hostile situations is timeless.”

In Choplifter HD, players take on the role of an up and coming rescue pilot asked to join the elite, international helicopter rescue team C.H.O.P.R. (Coordinated Helicopter Operations, Preservation and Rescue).  Pilots will be trained to command a variety of helicopters deployed on more than 20 different missions ranging from captured military prisoner extraction to saving survivors of viral outbreaks.  Pilots must bank, hover and touch-down in perilous conditions in order to make their rescue and complete their mission.  Developed and published by inXile Entertainment, Choplifter HD dares players to risk their lives in order to save others.
